CDFU + KFM: The Ultimate Solution for Heavy Oil Power Plant Wastewater

Time:2026-01-23 Click:26

As an important energy supply facility, heavy oil power plants generate a large volume of oil-containing wastewater during operation, which mainly comes from drainage from oil tank farms, ground flushing water, equipment maintenance drainage, and potential accidental leaks. Such wastewater is typically characterized by high oil content (especially heavy oil and emulsified oil), complex composition (possibly containing suspended solids, colloids, partial soluble organic matter and heavy metals), and significant fluctuation of water quality. Traditional processes such as oil separation and coagulation-sedimentation often fail to achieve stable and efficient oil-water separation, and the effluent quality can hardly meet the increasingly stringent discharge standards or water reuse requirements. This not only imposes environmental pressure on enterprises but also results in the waste of water resources.

Innovative Solution: Powerful Combination of CDFU (Cyclonic Dissolved Gas Flotation Unit) and KFM Activated Media Filter

To address the above industry challenges, Sinokle's technical team has conducted in-depth research on on-site demands and creatively launched an integrated treatment process of "CDFU Cyclonic Dissolved Gas Flotation Unit + KFM Activated Media Deep Filtration Unit", forming a complete solution covering pre-treatment and advanced purification.

First Line of Defense: CDFU (Cyclonic Dissolved Gas Flotation Unit) – Core for Efficient Demulsification and Oil Droplet Removal

The CDFU system is one of Sinokle's core patented technologies. It ingeniously combines cyclonic separation technology with high-efficiency dissolved air flotation technology, creating unique treatment advantages.

1. High-efficiency Cyclonic Pre-separation: The influent water first enters the cyclonic section, where under the action of a strong centrifugal force field, most free oil and high-density suspended solids in the wastewater are rapidly and preliminarily separated, reducing the load of the subsequent flotation unit.

2. Precision Flotation with Micro-nano Bubbles: The pre-separated wastewater enters the dissolved air flotation section. The system generates a large number of dense and uniform micro-nano bubbles through the high-efficiency dissolved air system. These bubbles fully collide with and adsorb the fine oil droplets, emulsified oil and colloidal substances in the wastewater after chemical conditioning (such as demulsification and coagulation), forming "bubble-particle" complexes.

3. Rapid Solid-liquid Separation: Driven by buoyancy, the complexes quickly float up to the water surface, forming a stable scum layer which is regularly removed by the scum scraper. Its separation efficiency is much higher than that of traditional flotation, especially with remarkable demulsification and separation effects on refractory emulsified oil.

4. Compact Design and Stable Operation: The CDFU system features a compact structure, small floor area, high automation level, stable operation and strong shock load resistance, making it highly suitable for treating oil-containing wastewater in power plants with large fluctuations in water quality and volume.

After treatment by the CDFU unit, most of the free oil, dispersed oil and emulsified oil in the wastewater are effectively removed, and the effluent oil content and suspended solid concentration are significantly reduced.

Second Line of Defense: KFM Activated Media Filter – Deep Purification and Water Quality Assurance

To ensure that the effluent quality meets higher standards (such as reuse as makeup water for circulating cooling water systems and plant greening) or complies with the strictest discharge limits, Sinokle configures the KFM Activated Media Filter as the advanced treatment unit after the CDFU. The KFM activated filter media is a kind of filtration medium modified by special processes with multiple surface properties.

1. Fine Physical Interception: The filter bed formed by filter media particles can effectively intercept the residual trace fine suspended solids and colloidal substances in the effluent from the CDFU unit.

2. Adsorption and Purification Function: The surface of KFM filter media has abundant pore structures and active sites, which have a significant adsorption effect on soluble organic matter, partial heavy metal ions and residual trace oil, further improving the removal rates of COD, BOD and specific pollutants.

3. Hydrophilic and Oleophobic Properties: Special surface modification endows it with excellent hydrophilic and oleophobic performance, making it not easy to be contaminated and blocked by oil, thus extending the service life of the filter media and achieving good backwashing regeneration effect.

4. Simple Operation and Maintenance: The filter adopts automatic control, which can automatically perform backwashing according to pressure difference or time, featuring simple maintenance and management.

Through the deep adsorption and filtration of the KFM Activated Media Filter, the effluent is clear and transparent, and the main pollutant indicators such as petroleum, suspended solids and COD can stably meet or even exceed the Grade I Standard of the Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standard (GB 8978-1996) or relevant water reuse standards, realizing a win-win situation of economic and environmental benefits.

This combined process has been successfully applied in multiple new construction or renovation projects of oil-containing wastewater treatment in heavy oil power plants. Operational data shows that:

1. Excellent Treatment Effect: The overall removal rate of petroleum by the system exceeds 99.5%, and the removal rate of suspended solids exceeds 98%. The effluent petroleum concentration can be stably maintained below 3mg/L, even reaching less than 1mg/L.

2. Low Operation Cost: The system has high integration and low energy consumption; the dosage of chemical agents is optimized due to high-efficiency flotation; the KFM filter media has a long service life, with a replacement cycle far superior to that of ordinary filter media.

3. Resource Utilization: The treated effluent can be reused according to needs, saving fresh water resources and reducing the operation costs of power plants.

4. Guarantee for Environmental Compliance: It completely solves the problem of enterprises' up-to-standard discharge of oil-containing wastewater, avoids environmental risks and enhances the corporate social image
